In Europe, Non-woven technologies are common to produce mats, which are basic structurs for several products.
Because this technology requires fibres with length in-between 7 cm and 9 cm, we chopped our banana fibres accordingly.
Two methods of non-woven production are common: airlay and carding process.
For our trials, we used the laboratory carding line, kindly provided by Saxonian Textile Research Institute (STFI) in Chemnitz/Saxony.
Our first result is a needle punched velt with a grammage of 200 grams per square meter.
